A precious note from Pina Bausch to Euripides, after he heaved himself across the stage inside a walrus suit as part of the New York performances of Masurca Fogo – her travelogue inspired by Portugal and Brazil – at BAM in November 2001.
Alongside it, a letter and a poem for Pina by Euripides.
Here’s what being a lone Pina walrus feels like!

On 26 May 2016, Euripides was invited by the Create National Development Agency for Collaborative Arts and the Dublin Dance Festival to take part in a seminar event titled “Dis-Ruptive Movements” at the Dublin Fringe LAB.
Chaired by Dr Sarah Tuck (a former director of Create), the panel also included Eckhard Thiemann – an independent international curator, producer and arts manager and Artistic Director of Shubbak, the London-wide festival of contemporary Arab culture – and Karthika Naïr – an award-winning French-Indian poet and dance producer, and principal scriptwriter of Akram Khan’s Chotto Desh.
In the run up to his RELIC performances at the Dublin Dance Festival, DRAFF magazine filmmaker José Miguel Jiménez visited Euripides in Athens to witness his particular osmotic approach to character development, working from the outside to the inside through costume, makeup and prosthetics.
01. have lots of useless objects lying around
02. play banal music for inspiration
03. make lots of notes and drawings on random pieces of paper
04. pretend these were huge inspirations
05. work with unfinished costumes
06. work from the outside in – never the other way around
07. …so work with a lot with mirrors
08. listen to documentaries on art while you prepare your space for rehearsal
09. if it's not working don't leave the rehearsal until 3.35am
10. invite close friends and people you never met for feedback – the same day
11. invite them even if you are not ready to share
12. filter this feedback
13. interrupt the rehearsal process for at least two weeks
14. work on other projects during these breaks
15. don't get any kind of subsidy
16. make money from the other projects
17. have no plan what-so-ever of how, where and when you will present the work
18. all of the above can be thrown out of the window at the first hint of success
