THE WALK // 2015
// this is Greece // unbelievable
THE WALK is an anthology piece: small pop-up scenes performed within the very fabric of Athens’ city centre. It reframed a range of OSMOSIS works as an outdoor, site-specific promenade performance, created specially for the 2013 IETM (International Network for Contemporary Performing Arts) Plenary Meeting in Athens.
Euripides served as guide, in the guise of one of his ridiculous and extravagant personas. Taking an ancient hairpin stadium as its starting point, where it dipped its toes in ancient Greek myth, the walk moved on to a statue steeped in more recent Greek history before diving into a different kind of mythology altogether: entering the infamous Zappion Gardens, where children play through the day and gay men cruise through the night.
A 2015 video of the performance was presented at the 2015 Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space as part of the official Greek participation (themed “New Spatialities: Design for Outdoor/Open Performance Space”), alongside a site-specific iteration of another OSMOSIS work: RELIC // JOSEF MÁNES.
